Everyone deserves the benefits that come from enjoying a positive relationship with movement.

That’s why we founded The Joyful Movement.

Our mission? To transform the relationship between movement and our transgender and non-binary whānau.

We are here to create a future where a generation of trans and non-binary people can enjoy a life long, mana-enhancing relationship with exercise and movement.

We all want to move in ways that work for our bodies and our lives. And when we do, everything and everyone benefits. We all deserve this joy.

We create new pathways into exercise leadership

We develop leadership pathways for trans and non-binary people into the exercise and movement sector.

We support exercise professionals to grow their competency in working with trans and non-binary people.

We create new narratives about who we are and who we want to be, redefining our relationships with our bodies.

Led by community voice and community need

Our mahi is grounded in research that we’ve done alongside trans and non-binary rangatahi, exercise professionals and allies.

We know from community research that if we want trans and gender diverse people to engage in movement and find joy in exercise, then we have to approach personal training from a holistic, well being perspective encompassing, physical, mental and spiritual health.

Shifting the systems that hold trans and non-binary people back

We are here for the long term. We focus on the changes that will make the biggest difference for our community. Strengthening whanaungatanga, deepening understanding, shifting narratives, developing capability, showing what’s possible.

The Joyful Movement is an innovation hub, an incubator of new ideas, a space for trans and non-binary people to imagine new exercise futures together.
